Miyota 8215 Base Caliber and Wandering Hour System

Drawing inspiration from technical horological satellite architecture, we engineered this modified Miyota 8215 automatic movement around a wandering hour display. Specifically, three transparent hour discs rotate sequentially along a 120-degree arc to track the current hour. Simultaneously, the active hour numeral aligns directly with a dedicated minute scale printed across the outer track. Consequently, the modified movement replaces traditional central hands with a continuous, orbital mechanical layout.

Orbital Mechanics and Continuous Minute Tracking

Where standard automatic movements utilize hands sweeping a full 360-degree dial, this modified module guides three rotating satellite discs in a precise planetary sequence. Therefore, as one hour digit exits the 120-degree minute arc, the next sequential disc engages the starting point. In fact, the open mechanical assembly reveals the gear train interaction and disc alignment during operation. As a result, the display provides clear, sequential timekeeping across a structured dial landscape.

Core Caliber Specifications and Testing Standards

Meanwhile, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), the movement retains the original Miyota 8215 architecture, including 21 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve. Additionally, hacking seconds and manual hand-winding functions support precise time adjustments during operation. Simultaneously, bidirectional automatic winding efficiently charges the mainspring through daily wrist motion.
