Miyota 8215 Wandering Hour Movement – Rotating Hour Display
The Miyota 8215 Wandering Hour Movement is a modified version of the reliable Japanese Miyota 8215 automatic caliber, featuring a distinctive wandering hour complication.
Instead of a traditional hour hand, the current hour numeral rotates on a disc and moves across a 120-degree arc. Three transparent discs display the hours in a smooth, sequential motion, creating a dynamic and visually interesting way to read time. The minutes are shown on a separate rotating scale, making the overall display clean and engaging.
This movement maintains the strengths of the original 8215 platform: 21,600 vph for steady seconds, 42-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, and bidirectional automatic winding. It offers good accuracy and is easy to service.
The open layout with visible gears and rotating discs looks particularly striking through an exhibition caseback, adding mechanical interest to the finished watch.
