We designed this Retrograde Mechanical timepiece to bridge the golden age of maritime navigation with modern horological design. Specifically, taking direct design cues from historical marine chronometers, we replaced traditional central hour hands with a striking arcuate retrograde scale. Simultaneously, a hand-cut white mother-of-pearl (MOP) sector is embedded into the upper dial, capturing ambient light to create shifting iridescent reflections across the wrist. Consequently, the watch transforms standard time-telling into an interactive, nautical-inspired mechanical spectacle.

Instantaneous Retrograde Dynamics

Where standard watches rely on continuous circular motion, our retrograde hour complication introduces a lively mechanical rhythm. Therefore, as the blue spade-shaped hour hand reaches 12 o’clock along its sweeping scale, it snaps back instantly to 0 in a fraction of a second. In fact, this dynamic jump is beautifully complemented by a long central blue seconds hand and an outer minute track ring. As a result, the high-contrast cobalt-blue hands contrast sharply against the brushed silver dial backdrop, ensuring instantaneous legibility at a glance.

Re-Engineered Mechanical Caliber

Meanwhile, beneath this nautical display beats our modified automatic movement, re-engineered specifically to power the hour retrograde complication with unwavering stability. Additionally, housed within a solid 316L stainless steel case featuring brushed surfaces and hand-polished bevels, the timepiece offers exceptional scratch resistance and daily durability. Simultaneously, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, while a hand-stitched black alligator-texture leather strap ensures immediate comfort on the wrist.
